Not Your Average Book Club!

Literacy Action not only helps students learn to read and prepare them to take the GED, but we also help expose them to various types of reading; novels, short stories, poems, signs, essays and more through our Book Club Plus: Extensive Reading Class!

Students who take the Book Club Plus: Extensive Reading Class, participate in various activities that place them on the path to read frequently outside of class.

Students:
  • Learn how to select books that they find interesting and are at their reading level.
  • Learn how to talk about what they have read.
  • Visit a library and obtain a library card.
  • Listen and follow along with their teacher as she/he reads 1-3 novels each semester.
  • Complete various activities that are designed to help them practice reading, writing, math, speaking, and map reading skills.
Our goal is for students to find the excitement in reading outside of class, as well as continually build on other skills that can help them in everyday life.

We try to provide our students with a wide variety of books, newspapers and other forms of printed work to choose from.

With generous donations from members of the community, we will be able to continue to open our student’s minds through the power of literature!
